A Clinical Study of the Ovarian Cancer


Abstract
Fourty-two cases of ovarian cancers, which admitted in the Chungnam National University Hospital, were diagnosed as ovarian cancer, and treated from January, 1983 through October, 1988.
The results of this study were as follows:
l. Among 2454 cases of gynecologic patients, ovarian ¡¼tumors were 415 cases, of which 42 cases (10.1£¥) were ovarian cancer.
2. Of the ovarian cancers, the epithelial tumors were 23 cases (54.8£¥), most common, germ cell tumors 8 cases (19.1£¥), metastatic tumors 6 cases (14.3£¥), and stromal tumors 2 cases (7.1£¥).
3. The prevalent age group of epithelial and metastatic ovarian cancer was 5th to 6th decade and mean age was 44.7¡¾ 16.3 years, and the prevalent age group of germ cell tumor 3rd decade and mean age 26.1¡¾ 15,3 years.
4. Three or more grandpara were 21 cases (50.0£¥), most common, and in case of epithelial ovarian cancer 16 cases (69.6£¥) experienced 1 or more deliveries and 3 cases (13.0£¥)primary infertility.
5. Among the clinical manifestations, palpable abdominal or pelvic mass was the most common (64.3£¥), and followed by lower abdominal pain or discomfort (42.9£¥), menstrual irregularity (28.6£¥), abdominal distension (19.1£¥), vaginal bleeding (14.3£¥), and dysuria (9.5£¥)
6. The most common size of tumors was 11 to 15cm (50.0£¥) and there was no ovarian cancer less than 5cm.
7. There were 23 cases(54.8£¥) with total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingooophorectomy, the most frequent method of surgery, unilateral salpingooophorectomy 7 cases (16.6£¥), and biopsy only 6 cases (14.3£¥).
8. For the clinical stage, stage I was 16 cases (45.7£¥), stage ¥± 5 cases (14.3£¥), stage g ¥² 15 cases (42.9£¥), and stage ¥³ 1 case.
